Innovative fabrics made for the sixteenth-century cloister of M9, Museo Multimediale del ‘900 in the city centre of Mestre (Ve)

M9, Museo Multimediale del ‘900, is the most important project for the urban regeneration planned by Fondazione di Venezia to contribute to the revamping and development of the Venetian mainland. The museum stands in the city centre of Mestre (Ve) and integrates itself very well with the urban environment both from an architectural and urban point of view.

In the courtyard of the former convento delle Grazie we can admire the elegant shading structure created with flexible, composite and ultra-resistant membranes that can offer weather-resistant protection, guaranteeing an excellent thermal regulation with the correct light supply and a good sound absorption, fundamental in this type of enclosed space.
The courtyard, heart of the Innovation Retail Center, has been projected to host international both cultural and business events. For this reason, it was necessary to create a modular structure able to respond to the new public and business services of Museo del ‘900, transforming it into a place of rest and sharing thanks to its covering that protects from the outside weather and offers an acoustic comfort.
More than 2000 square metres of a Serge Ferrari fabric: weather protection, full brightness and acoustic comfort
The elegant covering created with highly translucent membranes from Serge Ferrari, distributed by GIOVANARDI, has a diamond-shaped structure and rests on pillars that work as drainpipes but also as lightning throughout the night.
During the day the translucent membranes guarantee a visual comfort to its guests, reducing the energy consumption for the lightning during daylight hours. To create this structure we have decided to use two membranes, the Flexlight Advanced 1002 S2 HT for the outside covering (1335 sqm) and Alphalia Silent AW Lux for the inner part (864 sqm).

Flexlight Advanced 1002 S2 HT is a full composite membrane that is uniform and very resistant but, at the same time, it is light and easy to maintain. Its high quality is guaranteed by the exclusive proprietary technology Précontraint, whose patent belonging to Serge Ferrari is valid worldwide and is to maintain the membrane in a bi-axial tension during the whole production process. This is an exclusive method that ensures a high mechanical strength and an extraordinary longevity. Alphalia Silent AW Lux is a translucent sound-absorbing membrane chosen for the inner part of the courtyard shading structure. With its 65% sound absorption properties, it also offers a special finish that allows the 41% of light to pass with a pure white shade. Alphalia Silent AW Lux reduces the reverberation time by 2 to 4 times and, thanks to this, it has been considered the perfect material to cover the courtyard of the museum, where the reverberation was the primary problem. It is a membrane that can be extremely flexible and adaptable to each kind of project, even the most complicated, while respecting curves and inclinations with an lasting aesthetic result. Moreover, it offers a high ease of installation and maintenance.
